Tours

The castle of Tours, in Indre-et-Loire, is located on the banks of the Loire in the oldest district of Tours, near the Saint Gatien cathedral, erected on the remains of the ancient city whose Tours originates. Notwithstanding the extent of its foundations partially revealed by the excavations of the 1970s, it is the very modest trace of a medieval castle of the eleventh century, as it was modified and enlarged in the thirteenth and fifteenth centuries when it acquires the status Royal residence. Almost completely destroyed in the eighteenth century, its two remaining towers are accommodated with a new building used by the army from the Revolution. After having served as barracks, it is in this singular configuration that it is drawn from oblivion and restored in the second half of the 20th century. It has been the subject of a partial classification as a historical monument since August 20, 1913, the other part having an additional inventory registration November 21, 19732. It now houses cultural and heritage activities .

Since 2010, the Château in partnership with the Jeu de Paume association organizes two exhibitions each year devoted to photography that unfold in parallel on the levels of the ground floor and the first floor.
